Good Post on The Truth About Guns
I’m a regular visitor and occasional poster on The Truth About Guns website. The writers there cover lots of topics and are very prolific. On October 8th, Rob Grobman published a post titled: 3 Ways to Stop the Next Mass Shooting – A Former Israeli Sniper’s Perspective. Grobman is a firearms and Krav Maga instructor and a former Israeli Special Forces Sniper.
The three ways Grobman presents are: Profiling, Armed and Properly Trained Security and Better Security at Public Events.
Grobman discusses how the Israelis have successfully used profiling to prevent many acts of violence. This is because of one simple fact: profiling works. Grobman does disclaim Israeli style of profiling is not based on racial or ethnic identity, but on behavior. He even links to an article posted on The Guardian website which cites a study by the ACLU proving how awful and useless profiling based on race and ethnicity really is. Sorry, I believe very little coming from the corrupt media and the ACLU. This isn’t a scientific finding but since 9/11 haven’t we been treated to report after report of old ladies in wheelchairs and children being subjected to additional scrutiny by the TSA? All in an effort to prove the TSA is fair, open minded an unoffensive to Muslims?
Allowing unmitigated profiling by a government agency is a scandal waiting to be exposed. The effective use of any type of profiling must administered by trained professionals and strictly overseen by men and women of integrity and dedication to the Constitution.
I don’t know if such a process is even possible.
Anyway, there is a place for some type of profiling procedures to assist in identifying the next one. First though, we need to get passed the liberal narrative profiling is some kind of crime against humanity.
Armed and Properly Trained Security
On this point Grobman opines: …it’s high time America stopped deploying overweight, under-trained, unprofessional, unarmed people to protect the public. I agree completely with this. There are high end security outfits with highly trained, professional and armed bodyguards. However this protection is reserved for the wealthy who can pay for such services. Many of their clients are rich and famous liberals who believe you need to be disarmed but insist on having their posses of armed bodyguards with them at all times.
The regular security guards encountered by most folks simply aren’t taken seriously. Since the job usually pays nothing and anyone showing up can get hired, this thinking may be justified. The most important task these guards are required to perform is to dial 911. It will probably never happen but the regular security guard position needs to be elevated to a profession. Elevated to such a level Wayne Lapierre’s notion of a good guy with a gun can be more fully realized.
Better Security at Public Events
Here Grobman suggests using counter-snipers and a technology called Rafael’s SpotLite system. This technology is capable of detecting gunfire and immediately identifying the source. Since I know nothing about providing security for large public events all I’ll say here is it would be nice to be in a public venue knowing there are lots of well-trained and armed good guys watching out for everybody.
